Vilnius, July 31. President Valdas Adamkus of the Republic of Lithuania took part in the ceremony of commemoration of the tenth anniversary of Medininkai tragedy.
In his address to the relatives of customs officials and police officers who died tragically ten years ago, the President stated that the tragic events in Medininkai was yet another trial to the strength of a newly restored State of Lithuania and its people’s faithfulness to the values of truth and freedom.
The Lithuanian leader emphasised that those who had ordered and executed that cruel act should be disclosed and punished. “The sacrifice of the lives of those young men obliges us to live in such a way that this sacrifice is never consigned to oblivion, “ said President Adamkus.
The President laid flowers at the wagon where Medininkai tragedy struck ten years ago. At the Antaklanis cemetery in Vilnius, the Lithuanian leader also laid flowers to the tombstones of the police officers and customs officials murdered in Medininkai
