Your Excellencies, Presidents of Estonia and Latvia,
Dear soldiers of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland,
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
I extend my most sincere congratulations to all of you who are witnesses to this truly historic event. I congratulate you on having opened a new page in the history of Lithuania, of the Baltic countries and of Europe.
We have received the invitation to join the North Atlantic Alliance. This decision is the acknowledgement of our joint work and the recognition of the Baltic States as credible allies and of their role in Europe.
We should preserve and strengthen the spirit of solidarity, which has guided us toward our strategic goal. We should enhance capabilities to allow our Forces to stand tall in the defence of national and regional security. Long lives the memory of our historic accomplishments!
I congratulate you once again on having achieved this historic victory in the struggle of the Baltic nations for freedom, which marks our return to the family of Western democracies.
I congratulate all of you on National Day of Lithuanian Armed Forces.
H.E. Mr. Valdas Adamkus, President of the Republic of Lithuania
