President receives the letters of credence from Bulgarian Ambassador

Vilnius, January 22nd. President Valdas Adamkus of the Republic of Lithuania received today the letters of credence from the Ambassador of Bulgaria, Latchezar Petkov.

Lithuania and Bulgaria today are active participants of Euro-Atlantic integration, the President said at the ceremony of the presentation of credentials. In his words, the decisions taken by the Prague Summit carry historic importance for the future of the two countries and their people.

“I am convinced that the membership of Lithuania and Bulgaria in NATO and the European Union will have a positive impact on our bilateral relations. Thus, while planning our future relations, we should take into account that we will soon be members of the family of European democracies,” said the head of Lithuania.

“The enlargement of NATO and the European Union is a crucial step towards eliminating the artificial division of the European continent that will grant our states an opportunity to resume their legitimate place in the community of European nations,” underscored President Adamkus.
