Medal of the Founding Volunteers of the Lithuanian Army was re-established after the medal, which was instituted in 1928 and made according to the design of artist Adomas Smetona, who died in exile. However, the inscription on the reverse of the Medal used today, however, has been slightly modified.
The Medal of the Founding Volunteers of the Lithuanian Army is conferred on persons who contributed to the establishment the Armed Forces of Lithuania and the strengthening of the national defence system of the country.
The Medal is also awarded to the participants of the armed resistance to the 1940-1990 occupations, volunteer soldiers recognised as such by law, persons awarded by the command of the armed resistance as well as leaders of the armed resistance.
1 056 persons were awarded the Medal of the Founding Volunteers of the Lithuanian Army by the year 2000.
The badges of the Medal are minted at the Mint of Lithuania, and the ribbon is manufactured by the Danish Company "Morch & Sons." |
